LMIA Based Employer Specific

Work Permits are for individuals who have been offered a job by an employer in Canada and can only work for that specific employer. The LMIA will outline the job duties, location of employment, salary details and other pertinent information about the offer of employment. LMIA Based Employer Specific Work Permits also require applicants to meet certain conditions such as having the necessary qualifications and experience for the job, having a valid passport, being in good health, not having any criminal record etc.

LMIA Based Employer Specific Work Permits are issued for a predetermined duration, usually needing renewal after their term comes to an end. However, these permits do not qualify as permanent residence status but may provide other opportunities as they can help make the transition smoother towards gaining such statuses in the future.

LIMA (Labour Market Impact Analysis)

A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document published by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that assesses the effects of employing an international worker in Canada. If no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is qualified for the post, a company can get a positive LMIA and engage an international worker. If the LMIA is negative, only Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible to occupy the post.

LMIA Application requirements

Business Legitimacy Documents: Employers must provide documentation proving their status as a legitimate Canadian business.
Transition Plan: Employers must develop a plan outlining how they will eventually transition from hiring temporary foreign workers (TFWs) to hiring permanent residents and citizens of Canada.
Recruitment Efforts: Employers must demonstrate that they have made significant efforts to recruit Canadian citizens and permanent residents before considering hiring a TFW.

Wages: Employers must include the salary information for the TFW in their applications. TFWs must receive the same wages as Canadian workers in high- and low-wage positions.
Processing Fee: All LMIA applications require a handling fee of $1000 CAD (subject to change), which is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome. However, some applicants under the LMIA for in-home caregivers may not be subject to this fee.

Working Holiday Visa

People who want the freedom to work for any employer while traveling in Canada should apply for a Working Holiday visa. n open work permit is granted to successful applicants in the Working Holiday program. Since open work permits are not tied to any one employer, individuals in Canada are free to switch jobs and locations. Foreign nationals from participating nations who are interested in this program, the candidate:

Does not need proof of language proficiency.
